After thousands of cracked and messed up slices we have a process of cutting our slices to minimize waste. Different species dry at different rates.
Depending on the diameter and Species of wood, we cut logs into 3-6 foot lengths. In the solar kiln area of our warehouse we dry these small logs for 6 months.
Depending on species and size, we use either the Vintage 12 inch DeWalt Chop saw, or the bandsaw mill, or a sharp Chainsaw. Getting them consistent thicknesses and not tearing up the bark in some cases is the challenge
In a designated part of our warehouse, we sort, stack, and dry our slices for at least 3 more months to dry slowly before offering them for sale.
The HARDEST part about drying and cutting slices is to keep the bark intact. Letting the logs dry long enough to eliminate cracking, but not too long so that the bark comes off is difficult.
In our store we sell slices:
-Up to 6" diameter - $5 per pound
- 6"-12" diameter - $1 per inch
- 12" -24" diameter - $2 per inch
